Brazilian Film Grand Prize


Cinema Brazil Grand Prize The Brazilian Film Grand Prize (also known as the Grand Othello Prize) is the most important film prize in Brazil, awarded annually by the Brazilian Film Academy since 2002, with the purpose of rewarding the best films and honoring excellence of the best professionals in each specialty of the Brazilian film industry.

History of the Brazilian Film Grand Prize


With the creation of the Brazilian Film Academy, founded on May 20, 2002, the Brazilian Film Grand Prize was established to contribute to the discussion, promotion, and strengthening of Brazilian cinema. Today it has more than 200 members.

 

The first edition of the award was held on September 12, 2002 at the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro. The winner of the first edition was the film "Bicho de Sete Cabeças" by director Laís Bodansky, which won seven awards.

 

The statuette of the Brazilian Film Grand Prize


Since 2015, the trophy consists of a gold-plated miniature of a knight holding a sword on a pedestal, in honor of the Brazilian actor Grande Otelo, designed by the painter Ziraldo Alves Pinto and carved by the sculptor Altair Souza.

 

Previously, the trophy had an abstract figure: a black ball on a half-open support.
